Actually, we don't know what is the truth.
A few weeks ago, Tom and I mailed out our beautiful birth announcements for Colleen. They were designed by my sister's good friend Dara who makes invitations and stationary at her company, Blessed Ink. We've gotten many compliments on the announcements and were very happy with how they turned out.
However, the information on the announcements may or may not be correct. We were all quite surprised with Colleen's "specs" when she was born. A 10 pound 15 ounce baby (let alone, a girl baby) is quite big! And the fact that she measured 24 inches was pretty impressive. All her baby items including the card from her hospital bassinet and I'm sure her birth certificate will have these numbers printed on them.
When we took Colleen to one of those first doctor's appointments, her weight had dropped. This is pretty typical for new babies I understand. However, she only measured at 21 inches long. I looked wide eyed at the nurse and exclaimed, "What? My baby is shrinking?"
We don't (and won't ever) know the truth. While 24 inches does seem quite long for a new baby, at her 2 month appointment, she measured in at 25 1/2 inches. So if she wasn't 24 inches at birth, does that mean she grew 4 1/2 inches in two months? That also seems a little crazy to me.
So, when we went to let Dara know what was to be printed on the announcements, we went with the hospital's numbers. It may not be the truth, but it sure sounds more impressive!
